Graf (left), Abby (back), & Riley (right)
Our dogs are born to hunt and demonstrate cooperative drive at an early age.
We have been blessed to own, breed, train, handle, and hunt behind some of the best German shorthair bloodlines in the world. Starting with our foundation DK female Kimber, we strive to continue the legacy of world class hunting dogs with superior cooperation. Our dogs are a dream to hunt with and a pleasure to live with.
Kimber vom Riverwoods
Born December 2012
65 pounds
Kimber was our first experience with DK (Deutsch kurzhaar) breeding, which entails strict requirements for breeding stock including size, temperament, and natural hunting abilities. We have focused our bloodlines exclusively on these well-rounded dogs.
Mariani's Abby
Born April 2016
55 pounds
Abby is a littermate to Riley. A bit smaller in stature, Abby possesses all expected natural abilities plus extra speed. Abby has been guiding hunts for several years and is my go-to hunting dog. In addition to being the perfect hunter, Abby has the most loving personality of any hunting dog I have ever owned. She is equally comfortable chasing birds or snuggling with my wife and kids.
Mariani's Lena
Born May 2021
48 pounds
Lena is our 3rd generation of German shorthairs. Her parents are Abby and Graf. She demonstrates a medium height and muscled build. Lena is a loving companion dog with our entire family, but with a serious presence in the field.
Ash vom Kiefern
Born April 2024
Thank you to the Bennett family for our new recruit, Ash vom Kiefern (call name Gemma). She flew from Washington state to join us June 2024. Gemma is out of arguably the best DK bloodlines in America. Her mother and father are both vom Trocken Bach dogs (unrelated) and her pedigree is full of KS titles dogs (versatile champions tested in Germany in the DKV system).
Gemma shows early signs of excellent natural abilities to point, retrieve, and track. She is developing well on socialization and obedience. The dogs have all welcomed her into the pack. Our daily adventures in the field have been absolutely positive and we look forward to great things as she grows into a versatile hunting machine.
Graf von den Donau-Wirbeln
Born May 2017
67 pounds
Graf is our first imported shorthair from Catrinel Pauna's kennel in Romania. Catrinel is an international conformation judge, specializing in the German shorthair breed and is an accomplished breeder of German shorthairs (https://www.deutsch-kurzhaar.ro/en/), using world-class DK breeding stock to build her bloodlines. Graf possesses phenomenal hunting drive, pointing, swimming, and excellent natural retrieve.
Karpaten Irbis Ugo
Born July 2020
72 pounds
Rusty was our second imported male from Catrinel Pauna's kennel in Romania. Rusty's father is a Riverwoods male, and Rusty is showing all of the desired natural abilities and cooperation that we look for in our dogs. His retrieving and tracking skills shine even at an early age with minimal training.
Bella's Amazing Grace
Born April 2007
65 pounds
Gracie was our first German shorthair. Out of excellent field trial bloodlines, Gracie was a quick hunter with excellent retrieve and strong water drive.
Hungry Ridge Ember vom Beau
Born July 2010
60 pounds
Ember came to us from Hungry Ridge kennel in Idaho. She was a compact, methodical hunter with great prey drive and cooperation.
Mariani's Riley
Born April 2016
60 pounds
Riley was from our first Kimber litter that resulted from breeding to an imported DK, Clou vom Holtvogt who had proven himself in NAVHDA (UT I) and even sired a VC (Artist) early in his breeding career. Riley excels at pointing, retrieving, and swimming. She has guided several hunts, and now lives her post-breeding years with our pastor, a retired game warden.
